Materials which have been separated in chromatography column 2b are eluted in a stream of carrier gas by passing heater 40 from the outlet end towards the inlet end of the column. Heater 40 has a radial slot 41 to allow outlet tube 42 to pass along the length of the heater, and an insulating ring 43 which isolates a cooling ring 44, comprising a thermoelement or means cooled with coolant, from heater 40. The eluted material passes by tube 42 to stripping column 45 and thence to a detector. |
