A dowel-shaping tool, for use in furniture making and restoration and using cyilndrical blanks (9), consists of a supporting frame (1) with a cutter (4) extending in a preset direction, and a mechanism for moving the cutter in a direction to its plane. The blank is fitted between two rotating rods set in supports (22,28) on the base, which can be adjusted by means of wedges (23) between the supports and the base of the frame. The distance between the supports can be adjusted by means of a series of holes (26) in the frame in which the support fixing bolts can be adjusted. While the blank is being rotated by the rods it is shaved down to the correct size by operating the cutter by a lever (16) and connecting bar (19).
