A badge (4) worn by individuals making public appearances has a central logo or slogan (6) carried on a disc together with associated decoration (5). Its transparent rim has an opaque covering which is cut away to produce a ring of stars (7). Behind the disc. an enclosure protects a set of LEDs, one for each star, together wiht a battery and electronic control circuitry. A microphone (10) is concealed in the badge front. Sounds picked up by the microphone are filtered so that three sections of the control circuitry are activated independently by different frequency ranges. If, for example, there is a musical background, ths causes separate groups of stars (11a,b,c) to illuminate in time with its different portions and rhythms.
