The transfer and transport device transfers the toner image present on the light-receiving member (113) onto the recording paper (122) while carrying out a corona discharge with respect to that section of a transport strip (123) guided and tensioned around a pair of rollers, which lies more closely to the light-receiving member (113) and is guided around one roller (128) of the pair of rollers, and with respect to the light-receiving member, and transports the recording paper after the transfer while attracting the paper to the strip. A conductive brush (219) makes contact with this strip, to which brush an AC voltage or a DC voltage is applied which has a polarity which is inverse to the transfer voltage so that toner separation on the strip is prevented. Furthermore, the lower tensioned section of the strip is loaded upwardly by the recording paper over a predetermined area in the circumferential direction of the light-receiving member, and the recording paper is attracted to the lower tensioned strip section so that the recording paper is prevented from sagging. <IMAGE>
