A light-sensitive element is described which has, on a conductive substrate, a photoconductive layer of a material in which an increasing number of charge carriers is generated as the amount of light received increases, and a switching layer of a material which changes abruptly from a state of high resistance to a state of low resistance when an impressed voltage exceeds a threshold value. Due to the switching layer, blurring at the edges can be avoided as a consequence of the intensity distribution in the exposing light beam.
