A method for recovering polyester film without degradation of a mechanical property comprises: (A) immersing the strip of waste magnetic recording tape (a) in 2-50% NaOH solution to loosen magnetic material (M) from the polyester film (a'); (B) passing the tape between a roughed roller (6), which rotates oppositely to the tape, and a support roller (5) to separate the magnetic material from the tape; (C) adjusting to pH 6.5-7.5 with 2-5% H2SO4 (4); and (D) washing (7), dewatering (8) and drying and winding the polyester film with a take-up roller (10).
