The use of polyethylene glycol ethers of the formula I …… in which R<1> is a straight-chain or branched alkyl radical with 6 to 13 carbon atoms, R<2> is an alkyl radical with 1 to 3 carbon atoms and n is a number from 2 to 6, for low-foaming cleaning agents which can be sprayed if desired, where in formula I R<2> is preferably the methyl radical and R<1> is preferably an octyl and/or decyl radical, is described.
