This invention relates to an aqueous based fabric softening formulation comprising a water dispersible cationic softener, a non-ionic softener and optionally an electrolyte, the non-ionic softener being an alkoxylated dialkylcitrate of the formula:- <CHEM> wherein Q1, Q2 and Q3 are such that at least two of them are C16-C20 alkyl groups and the third is an alkoxyl group of the formula (CH2 CHR1O)nH wherein R1 is H or CH3 and n has a value from 1 to 15. These formulations can be used with conventional smectite type clay softeners.
