PURPOSE:To efficiently charge scrap anodes into a copper converter and to shorten the time for operating the converter by transferring the scrap anodes from an anode rack on a carriage to a lifting conveyor and further charging the same by a chuter into the converter through the inlet thereof. CONSTITUTION:Plural pieces of the scrap anodes 10 are housed onto the anode rack 12 imposed on a carriage device 14 which travels on rails 32 and the carriage device is moved to a prescribed position. The above-mentioned scrap anodes 10 are pushed out by a pusher 16 of a transfer device 18 from the rack 12 and are successively transferred by each sheet onto the lifting conveyor extending up to the charging port of the copper converter 20, by which the scrap anodes are lifted. A sliding door at the charging port is opened in the charging port of the copper converter and part of the chuter 22 disposed near the same is inserted into the port to charge the lifted scrap anodes 10 into the converter. The scrap anodes 10 are thereby quickly and efficiently charged into the converter, by which the time for operating the converter is shortened and the leakage of gas is minimized; in addition, the temp. control in the furnace is made constant and the life of the converter is extended.
