Immunoassays for incipient diabetes.

An incipient outbreak of insulin dependent diabetes mellitus can be predicted by testing for the presence of antibodies against idiotypic antibodies which recognize the receptor binding sites of insulin (anti-DM-idiotypic antibodies) or the antibodies against the receptor binding sites of insulin (DM-idiotypic antibodies) in either the serum or urine of the patients to be tested. Monoclonal antibodies are preferably used in such a test. A kit containing such antibodies and conventional adjuvants may also be used.
