PURPOSE:To make possible to manufacture a cast iron of throughly low S without the use of low S coke, by filling dividingly a raw material iron of low S, a flux, a small particle solid C material etc. and a large lump solid carbon material, a ferro alloy etc. into a vertical shaft furnace. CONSTITUTION:A refractory sleeve 2 is provided at an above center of the vertical shaft furnace 1, divided to an inner and outer layers, and a concentric double hole is formed at a raw material feeding entrance 3. The raw material iron (preferably, reduced iron), the flux such as lime stone, fluorspar and a low S solid C material such as graphite particle are fed into this sleeve, and coke lumps 5 of the large lump solid C material and the ferro alloy 6 such as ferro silicon are fed into the outside. A preheated air is blown from the furnace bottom for the melting. Thereby, the combustion gas is passed and raised through gaps between the lumps 5 and a raw material layer 4 is not contacted with the ascending waste gas until just before the melting. Thus, the sulfur absorption from the cokes can be prevented. |
