<p>PURPOSE:To readily, industrially and advantageously obtain ketones useful as a synthetic raw material, etc., for dyes and perfumes, in high selectivity and good yield even under a relatively low reaction temperature, by reacting an aliphatic carboxylic acid, etc., using a specific catalyst supported on a carrier while heating. CONSTITUTION:A compound selected from aliphatic carboxylic acids, such as acetic acid, expressed by formula I [R<1> is (substituted) alkyl; X<1> is H or hydrocarbon group] and esters thereof or a mixture thereof with a compound selected from aromatic or aliphatic carboxylic acids, such as benzoic acid, expressed by formula II [R<2> is R<1> or (substituted) aryl; X<2> is X<1>] and esters thereof is reacted in the presence of a catalyst containing a simple substance of a group IIIA, IVA, VIIA, VIII, IB, IIB or IIIB metallic element of the periodic table and/or compound, such as a compound expressed by formula III, supported on active carbon at 200-450 deg.C under ordinary pressure -10kg/cm<2> pressure for 0.1-200hr to afford the aimed ketone expressed by formula IV, such as acetone or acetophenone.</p> |
