1,201,649. Carbon fibre reinforced plastics rackets. CARLTON SPORTS CO. Ltd. 13 Dec., 1968 [20 Dec., 1967], No. 57757/67. Heading A6D. A racket for games such as tennis and badminton has a frame for stringing, a shaft and a handle, in which the frame is made of carbon -fibre-reinforced plastics material. The frame may be in one moulding or in two or more complementary mouldings. The shaft and handle may be of wood or metal or plastics material, or of carbon-fibre-reinforced plastics material as the frame. The frame, shaft and handle may be made as an integral moulding or separately. When the frame is in two complementary sections it is preferred that the sections meet in a plane containing or parallel to the area to be strung. If each section forms half of the frame, and the shaft and handle are of carbon-fibre-reinforced plastics material, one half of the shaft and handle may be moulded integrally with each section of the frame. When the frame is in two sections, the inner side of one or both sections may be provided with a plurality of spaced protuberances 13 and 14, so that when the two sections are joined together apertures 15 are provided for string- ing. If the frame is formed as a single moulding, the apertures for stringing may be drilled. The plastics material used for the frame may be a thermosetting or thermoplastic resin. Preferred plastics are epoxy resins, nylons, polypropylene and polymethylpentene. |
