Human hair is dyed by treating the hair at 10-40‹C with an oxidising agent in presence of a composition which comprises an isoxazolone of formula I: in which R 1 is a hydrogen atom or an acid group able to be hydrolytically split off, R 2 is a hydrocarbon residue, R 3 is hydrogen or a hydrocarbon residue which may form a 6- membered ring with R 2 which may be substituted and a substituted arylamine with at least one primary amino group or alphanaphthylamine. Preferably the pH of the composition is 8 to 10, 0.3 to 5% by weight of the isoxazolone and arylamine, wetting agents and thickeners may also be present. Yellow, brown and violet shades may be obtained on hair. |
