PURPOSE:To reduce duty on software and contrive higher performance, by automatically informing a host device of the approach of a paper run-out condition from a printer-controlling part. CONSTITUTION:A controlling part comprises an adaptor controller 1 and a mechanism controller 2. The adaptor controller. 1 comprises an MPU 11, a ROM 12 storing therein a microprogram for the MPU 11 and a buffer 13, and a serial interface 14 to the host side and a direct memory access controller 15 in the controller 1 are connected to a bus. The bus is connected with a paper run-out informing means 16. The informing means 16 comprises an X register 16a for storing the current number of lines on each page, a Y register 16b for storing the number of lines fed which is specified by a host device, a Z register for storing the number of lines fed which corresponds to a detecting position for the approach of a paper run out condition, and a status register 16d for setting the presence or absence of necessity of a delaying process. This makes it enough to set firmware in the ROM 12 so as to drive the informing means 16, without need for a dummy instruction to be issued on the host side. |
