PURPOSE:To perform ultrasonic flaw detection in a small flaw detection noise state and to make the device compact by partitioning a sticking matter removal tank and an ultrasonic flaw detection tank except element wire through holes, and preventing sticking matter from entering the flaw detection tank and the temperature from rising. CONSTITUTION:The sticking matter removal tank 4, ultrasonic flaw detection tank 5, and a water discharge tank 6 are provided in the wire drawing direction of a die box, and partitioned except the element wire through holes 26 and 27. Then exhaust ports 23 and 44 are opened so that the tanks 4 and 6 are filled with water while water is feed from the feed port 33 of the tank 5. An element wire A exiting from a wire drawing die 19 has its sticking matter removed and is cooled with running water to prevent the temperature in the tank 5 from rising, thereby performing the flaw detection with a good S/N ratio in the small flaw detection noise state. Further, vertical and oblique probes 30 and 30A are provided to detect an internal defect and a chevron crack at the same time. Consequently, the flaw detection accuracy is improved and the device is made compact. |
