A spectacle frame hinge consists of a support (2) fixed to the side of the lens mount (2), and a side-piece (3) which is hinged to the support and has a recess (12) for a spring-loaded ball (14,15) which interacts with a cam surface (16) in the hinge. The cam surface has a recess (17) which engages with the ball when the side-piece is in the open position, ensuring that the side-piece is held firmly when in that position. The hinge support can be spherical in shape and fixed to the lens mount by welding or other means. ADVANTAGE - Simplicity and reliability.
