The seal is intended for sealing the leadthrough of a rotatable shaft (1) into the pressurised refiner chamber (3) of a refiner which produces mechanical half stuff from lignocellulose-containing material. To provide an economical seal which is highly resistant to wear, the seal consists of a bush (2) with a plurality radial inner flanges which form with radial outer projections (4) of the shaft (1) a labyrinth-like sealing chamber, the sealing action of which is reinforced by means of pressurised steam introduced into the labyrinth.
