PURPOSE:To automatically reproduce a fine line pattern in a converted picture element based on thinning-data necessary to detect a picture element to be converted which has a fine line pattern to be thinned out in contracting an original image whose line-width is less than 1/contraction ratio by generating said data abased on a desired contraction ratio. CONSTITUTION:The density data of a specific group of picture elements to be converted located in the vicinity of a converted picture element is inputted an input means 1 for picture elements to be converted of a system, and a thinning data generating means 2 generates, based on a contraction ratio, a bit of thinning data to detect thinning-object picture element on a fine line to be thinned out from the group of picture elements to be converted in the contraction processing. Also, a divided data decision means 3 decides, based on the contraction ratio, in which one of divided areas the converted picture element is located. A converted picture element density calculation means 4 detects whether or not the picture element is an object of thinning based on thinning- data, the divided area in which the converted picture element is located, and the density data of the group of picture elements to be converted, and thus the density of the picture element is calculated. |
