A frame (6) shaped like a polygon and mounted above and parallel with a pig-casting belt (1) carries a chain conveyor (8), of which the sprockets (7) are mounted at the apices of the frame (6), the chains carrying scraper modules (10) equidistantly and freely-suspended from swivel joints and the chain conveyor (8) running at a speed synchronous with that of the pig-casting belt(1). The polygonal path of the scraper modules (10) comprises a working portion of the polygon which extends at the same pitch angle as the pig-casting belt (1). Here, the scraper modules (10) are so passed over the moulds (2) that the scraper blades (11) dip slightly into the molten metal (3). A subsequent working portion of the polygon comprises the lifting of the scraper modules (10) away from the pig-casting belt (1) at an angle amounting to 13 to 15 DEG relative to the first-mentioned making portion. Slag is deposited into containers of a transversely-running continuous conveyor (14) arranged in the central area (15) of the polygonal frame (6). <IMAGE> |
