The self-supporting sheet metal roofing system consists of thin sheet metal layers which are bent into a wave shape (1) on either side of a ridge, the two sheets are positioned symmetrically on either side of the ridge, with each wave having sections with smaller and larger radii of curvature, the latter being adjacent to the ridge. At the ridge the sheets are joined by an overlapping double fold and covered with a cap, e.g. of rectangular section, while at their outer edges the sheets have trapezoid-section bends which are bolted to the edges of the roof supports. ADVANTAGE - Greater strength without increasing thickness of metal sheets.
