1305830 Diepoxycyclodecanes; oxabicyciododecanes; dioxatricyclododecanes CHEMISCHE WERKE HULS AG 5 June 1970 [7 June 1969] 27188/70 Heading C2C The invention comprises trans-1,2-cis-5,6- diepoxycyclodecanes of formula in which one of the radicals R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> is hydrogen and the other is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, cyclohexyl or phenyl. They may be prepared by reacting one mole of a trans,cis-1,5- cyclododecadiene of formula with 1-3 moles of a peroxyacid or salt thereof at a temperature in the range from - 10‹ to 750‹ C. The diepoxycyclodecanes so formed may be converted in 2,8-dihydroxy-11-oxabicyclo[5,3,1]-undecane of general formula by hydrolysing in an aqueous medium at a pH value of 0-12 and a temperature in the range 50-120‹ C. These dihydroxy compounds may, in turn, be converted to an 11,12-dioxatricyclo[5,3,1,1<SP>2,8</SP>] dodecane of formula by treatment with a strong acid or Lewis acid at 60-250‹ C. and 0À1 to 760 torr. |
