The magnetic tape recording/reproducing appts. comprises tape loading means for drawing out a tape from a tape cassette which has a supply reel and a take-up reel, and for loading said tape into a predetermined path in which said tape is wrapped around a peripheral surface of a drum. Loading means has a first braking unit for braking a supply reel disc, a second braking unit for braking a take- up reel disc, and a control unit for finishing operation of the second braking unit during the initial stage of the first braking unit.
