摘要 PURPOSE:To reduce an initializing magnetic field and a recording power by being equipped with a magnetic field impressing means and a heating means to a recording medium to form an auxiliary layer having a vertical magnetic anisotropy and an auxiliary layer having the vertical magnetic anitostropy to set the magnetization direction of the storing layer. CONSTITUTION:When data are overwritten, first, an initializing magnetic field is impressed to a recording medium 1 by a first magnetic field impressing means 2. By adding the initializing magnetic field, an auxiliary layer 7a of the magnetic domain of the recording medium 1 is magnetized in the direction of an initializing magnetic field. When a storing layer 1a is magnetized in the direction reverse to the initializing magnetic field, for example, the recording medium 1 is heated to a temperature higher than the compensation temperature of an auxiliary layer 1b by a heating means 3 composed of a semiconductor laser, etc., and the temperature is kept over a constant time. Reversely, when the storing layer 1a is magnetized in the same direction as the initializing magnetic field, the recording medium 1 is heated up to the temperature higher than the Curie temperature of the storing layer 1a and lower than the compensa tion temperature of the auxiliary layer 1b by the heating means 3. Thus, the initializing magnetic field and the recording power can be reduced.
