In the case of a method for influencing the properties of electromagnetic relays, especially hinged-armature relays for motor vehicles, one or more electromechanical properties of the relay are determined, control variables for the heat source are calculated from predetermined characteristic parameters of the relay, and the resiliently elastic properties of a spring of the relay are influenced. In the case of a corresponding device, a measurement device has one or more voltmeters, and a computation device is provided for calculating the control variables for the heat source, from predetermined characteristic parameters of the relay. By means of these measures, it is possible to influence the properties of the relay only as a function of properties which can be measured easily, and the method according to the invention and the device according to the invention can be used easily and cost-effectively in large-scale manufacture (mass production, large-batch manufacture).
