<p>In an process for preventing an excessive engine drag torque in road vehicles, a quantity of fuel slightly less than the no-load quantity and which decreases gradually with time is supplied to the engine after the accelerator pedal is released. The resultant change in engine speed is monitored. When a given change in engine speed per unit time is exceeded, the quantity of fuel is gradually increased until a given positive change in engine speed is detected, after which the quantity of fuel is gradually decreased again. The process is repeated until the engine attains a constant-speed operating mode.</p> |
