DPCM CODER AND DPCM DECODER

PURPOSE:To improve picture quality equivalently by inspecting the content of a control signal multiplexed during the vertical blanking period of a video signal and revising the predicting method of a predicting means of DPCM (Differential Pulse Code Modulation) coder and decoder so as to attain optimum prediction. CONSTITUTION:A detector 7 detects the content of the horizontal moving vector and the vertical moving vector in a control signal multiplexed during the vertical blanking period of MUSE signal. In response to the result of detection, the prediction method in the prediction means 6 of DPCM coder is revised to apply DPCM coding. Thus, the prediction error is minimized based on the control signal multiplexed on the MUSE signal, and the DPCM coder applying high efficient coding to the MUSE signal and the DPCM decoder restoring the signal coded by the DPCM coder into the original MUSE signal are obtained.
