<p>PURPOSE:To efficiently perform orthogonal transform encoding without requiring interpolation or the like even for a signal having a quincunx picture element arrangement by arranging picture elements in a block in a matrix on a grid provided in directions of two sides adjacent to each other of a parallelogram. CONSTITUTION:Two picture elements nearest to a certain picture element 1 on the m-th line are selected and are defined as second and third picture elements 2 and 3 respectively. The straight light connecting picture elements 1 and 2 is defined as a side A, and that connecting picture elements 1 and 3 is defined as a side B. When one block consists of 4X4 picture elements, the length of each of sides A and B is determined to include four picture elements, and a parallelogram is determined by these two sides. When the inside of this parallelogram is defined as one block and coordinates of sides A and B are denoted as p, q, picture elements in the block are arranged in a matrix in directions of axes of coordinates. Thus, orthogonal transform in the block is possible without requiring interpolation or the like, and correlations between picture elements close to one another are used to reduce redundant information.</p> |
