A steering axle has a swivelling bearing of novel design comprising an axle body with outwardly directed bearing pins at its forked ends. The bearing pins are retained under a given initial stress in conical seats in the axle body and carry tapered roller bearings at their free ends. A hub support is coupled to the axle body via the tapered rolling bearings, which abut axially and radially on the bearing pins. The compact design of the joint head permits a smaller roll radius. In addition, the distance between the points of intersection of the axis of rotation with the median plane of the wheel and the swivelling axis is very small, which permits a good steering angle with otherwise identical parameters.
|
