A filter for suspended matter having a filter insert which can be inserted into a housing via an entry orifice at one end and can be connected via a seal to a throughflow connection branch of the gas to be filtered opposite the entry orifice and having a cover sealing the entry orifice is to be improved in such a way that the maintenance of filters in the vacuum systems or suction pipes is facilitated. The associated filter insert is to be held gas-tightly in its housing without additional clamping or fixing means. Exchange of filter inserts must be easy to carry out with few manipulations. For this purpose, the filter is designed in such a way that the cover is constructed as a lid (10) composed at least in its rim area (14) of flexurally elastic material, which lid has an elastic bead (9) on its rim area (14), which elastic bead can be fastened over a sealing collar (8) provided along the rim of the entry orifice (5).
