An atomic absorption spectrometer with electrothermal atomization of the test sample and background compensation by exploitation of the Zeeman effect contains an oven (130) which is heated perpendicular to the direction of propagation of the measuring light beam (18) of the atomic absorption spectrometer, for the electrothermal atomization of the test sample, and a switchable electromagnet (44) for generating a magnetic field at the site of the test sample and which runs parallel to the direction of propagation of the measuring light beam (18), so that when the electromagnet (44) is switched on, a longitudinal Zeeman effect occurs in the absorption lines. The electromagnet (44) has pole pieces (46, 48) with aligned passages (50, 52) through which the measuring light beam (18) passes. Contacts (128, 176) whose centrelines are perpendicular to the centreline of the measuring light beam (18) and which hold the cross-heated oven (130) are mounted in a contact support (96) arranged on the pole pieces (48, 50). Magnet coils (60, 62) are arranged directly on the pole pieces (46, 48). The contact support (96) and coil holders (56, 58) constitute a single component.
|
