In the case of a filter (10) for extractor hoods, having means for displaying the saturation by deposited suspended matter, absorbed fat vapours or the like, according to the invention at least one partially or totally screened, small neutral region (20) is present, which visually stands out, as an indicator field, from the useful area (12) of the filter (10) when the latter is saturated. A screen (14) can be attached to one side of the filter, so that the neutral regions (20) lie on the opposite side or face (e.g. 16). The screen or each screen (14) is preferably made in the form of an optionally detachable mechanical covering or as an oil-permeable coating. The neutral regions (20) can pass through the wall thickness (w) of the filter (10). The indicator fields (20) are in particular coloured zones or areas of contrast with a signalling effect owing to geometrical shape, rating and the like. <IMAGE>
