CONSTITUTION:A balm is added to an aqueous solution of a protein such as glue and the resulting mixture of the protein with the balm is stirred to prepare a colloidal solution, which is then drop-wise added to a commercially available Indian ink with stirring to effect mixture of the components. Conventional Indian inks, etc. on the market have not only a poor smell but also other defects including giving a poor movement of a writing brush, bringing about solidification of the hair tip of the writing brush soaked therewith when the soaked brush is allowed to stand, and causing blotting of a wood strip when used to do writing on the wood strip. In contrast, the above-mentioned process provides a fragrant Indian ink which can not only give a smooth movement of a writing brush, keep the hair tip of the writing brush soaked therewith from solidifying for a considerable time even when the soaked brush is allowed to stand, and minimize the wear of the hair tip of the brush, but also give a suitable build-up of the ink having a vivid sepia color and give out a fragrance when used to do writing on the surface of a surface-finished wood strip. Therefore, the ink can have a highly formal style of writings remaining especially on a mortuary tablet, a wooden stupa, a billboard, a signboard, etc. Of course, the ink can be used to do smooth and beautiful writing on the surface of paper.
