PURPOSE:To obtain the large capacity and steady charge-discharge performance regardless of simple structure by fitting a porous electron-conductor having lower contact angle to sulfur than that to sodium polysulfide along a solid electrolyte of a sodium-sulfur battery, and previously wetting the electron conductor with sodium polysulfide, then charging the battery. CONSTITUTION:A battery container 1 is divided into two containers with they separated from a solid electrolyte 3 capable of passing sodium ions. An anode active material 7 whose essential component is sodium is filled in one container and a cathode active material 6 whose essential component is sodium polysulfide is filled in the other container. A porous electron-conductor 21 having lower contact angle to sulfur than that to sodium polysulfide is fitted along at least one surface of the solid electrolyte 3. In charging, sodium polysulfide sunk in the lower part of a cathode is selectively sucked up along the porous electron- conductor and supplied to the surface of the solid electrolyte. Necessity of many pipelines is eliminated, the capacity of a battery is increased, and the internal resistance of the battery in the initial charging is decreased. |
