PURPOSE:To enable data on the presence or absence, the kind and the like of an ink ribbon cassette to be also detected, by varying the position relative to the cassette of a photo-sensor for detecting the trailing end of an offective part of an ink ribbon. CONSTITUTION:A photo-sensor 10 for detecting a trailing end part of a ribbon cassette 9 is scanningly moved on an inner surface of an ink ribbon 9c through an opening part 23, together with a reflector 11. The photo-sensor 10 has a detecting part fitted to an upper end part of an L-shaped sensor lever 12, which is turnably supported through a shaft 13. When a carriage 3 reaches a home position, an operating part 12b of the sensor lever 12 comes into contact with a slant surface 17a of a lever receiver 17, and the lever 12 is turned against a spring 14. By this, an identification seal 27 provided at a recessed part 24 of the cassette 9 is detected, and the type of the cassette 9 is indicated. The presence or absence of the cassette mounted is detected through light reflected by the reflector 11. |
