CONTINUOUS METHOD OF GRAPHITIZING LONG FURNACE FOR CARRYING OUT THE METHOD

A continuous process for graphitisation of long, preheated carbon products comprises passing the products in column through a furnace and heating by jouble effect to at least 2500 deg.C. The column is arranged approx. horizontally and the lining of the furnace consists of divided carbon which does not move through the furnace. The process is used to manufacture electrodes, elongated bars, tubes of circular section etc. The divided carbon consisting of coke granules does not become overheated, as in the prior art vertical furnace; hence it does not have to be cycled through the furnace. This avoids loss of heat due to cooling of the coke granules.
