PICTURE TRANSMISSION SYSTEM AND TRANSMITTER-RECEIVER

PURPOSE:To prevent noise from giving much effect on a signal sent with time axis multiplex by applying nonlinear level companding to a high frequency component at the sender side and sending the result. CONSTITUTION:A signal C is formed by an interpolation circuit 6 with the interpolation processing to a subsample signal B and the result is outputted to a subtractor 10. The subtractor 10 obtains a difference with a signal A before subsample and obtains an interpolation error signal D via a subsampler 12. The interpolation error signal D represents a high frequency component while the signal B subject to subsampling represents a low frequency component. The interpolation error signal D is subject to nonlinear level compression by a nonlinear level compressor 14 and multiplexed with the subsample signal B by a time axis multiplex circuit 18. Thus, larger visual effect due to noise caused by the larger compression of noise level with a lower level of the high frequency component is avoided.
