PURPOSE:To make printing irregularity such as a white or black stripe inconspicuous even when there is a sheet feed error, by making it possible to respectively mask a proper number of the dots of the upper and lower parts of a head and adjusting upper and lower masking quantities to change the range of the dots to be used. CONSTITUTION:When image data is received, a carriage 4 is moved to a printing start position and masking quantities are set to the respective mask n1 register 41 and mask n2 register 42 of the mask circuit 40 in a printing data circuit 16. Then, the data of one dot cycle corresponding to the number of dots of a head 5 is transmitted to the head 5 and the head 5 is driven to perform printing. It is judged whether the printing of one line is finished and, when said printing is not finished, the carriage 4 is moved to the next dot position to repeat the same operation and the next dot cycle is printed and this process is repeated until the printing of one line is finished. At this time, the masking quantities of the mask n1 register 41 and the mask n2 register 42 can be changed at every dot cycle and the boundary F of lines can be set to a zigzag state or other variation curve. |
