PURPOSE:To stabilize the clamping state of respective optical fibers and to prevent the axial misalignment at the time of welding the optical fibers by providing elastic bodies to the parts where clampers come into contact with the optical fibers. CONSTITUTION:The elastic bodies 4 consisting of, for example, foamed plastic, etc., are provided to the surfaces where the clampers 3 come into contact with the optical fibers. The elastic bodies 4, therefore, absorb the difference in the outside diameter of the optical fibers 1 even if said outside diameters differ. Downward force acts on the respective optical fibers 1 and even the optical fibers having the small outside diameters can be exactly positioned into V- grooves 21. Exertion of the excessive pressure on the optical fibers 1 in the vertical direction thereof and the increase in friction resistance between the fibers and the elastic bodies 4 are prevented by providing longitudinal notches to the elastic bodies 4 or applying a coating on the surfaces of the elastic bodies on which said bodies come into contact with the optical fibers 1 in the case of the optical fibers 1 having the large outside diameter. |
