Cosmetic composition containing hydroxylated chalcone derivatives and its use for protecting the skin and the hair against luminous radiations, new hydroxylated chalcone derivatives employed and process for their preparation. The invention relates to a cosmetic composition for protecting the skin and the hair against UV rays comprising, in a cosmetically acceptable substrate, at least one derivative of 2-hydroxychalcone of formula: (I) in which R1, R2, R3 and R4 denote, independently of each other, a hydrogen atom, a straight- or branched-chain C1-C12 alkyl group, a straight- or branched-chain C1-C12 alkyl group or a straight- or branched-chain C2-C20 acyloxy group. The invention also relates to new derivatives of 2-hydroxychalcone and the process for their preparation.
