The machine consists of a railborne bogie connected to an air suction system (6). A casing (5) is attached to the bogie frame and includes a first opening (8) for indraft of air. The opening has a rectangular shape and is arranged parallel and close to one of the rails (2). Air drawn into the opening first passes across the rail head to clear it of debris. A projecting probe (11) fits into the rail slot to displace debris for suction into the casing by the air current created. ADVANTAGE - Relatively high speed, with improved cleaning efficiency and reduced interference with traffic.
