Thermal insulation sleeves for pipework incorporates on their internal surface an electrical heater tape, the terminals of which are exposed to enable connection via wires (17) to those of other such sleeves. The heaters are pref. held in place by heat-shrunk plastics film or tapes. The heated sleeves (1) are distributed at intervals in sequence with unheated sheathing (15), depending upon the amt. of heat necessary to prevent the pipe contents from becoming too viscous or freezing. Heated sleeves opt. include a thermostat or other instrument to facilitate temp. control. For split sheath insulation, the heater is pref. located in the upper half of the sheath. USE/ADVANTAGE - Applicable to sleeves based on bonded mineral wools or cellular plastics mouldings.
