The filter unit on a vacuum cleaner is a filter disc (8) which is mounted for rotation in a housing (3) in the air stream direction so that it can be adjusted in different functional positions. A valve (10) is provided in front of the filter disc (8) at the entrance (B) of the air stream into the housing (3). The filter disc is mounted on an axis (6) which is mounted in the filter housing (3) and which has an operating member (9) for turning. The housing with the rotatable filter disc forms part of a portable vacuum cleaner. USE/ADVANTAGE - This filter allows self cleaning without having to open the housing.
