The refractory comprises a course layer (4) and a porous refractory brick (5), both enclosed in an insulated casing (6). A gas and air supply pipe (1) feeds a distributor (2,3) embedded in the course layer (4) which acts as a further distributor. The refractory brick has around 20 per cent enlarged pores which allow an initial surface combustion to take place. The surface (7) is thus heated above the ignition temperature of the gas/air mixture. At this point the combustion takes place with the upper layer of pores. The surface (7) becomes a radiant heating surface, whilst the inlet zone remains cold. Combustion takes place stoichimetrically. USE - For the radiant walls and roof of a furnace, radiant heating panels and water boilers.
