A magnetic torque transmission device comprises a pair of coaxially arranged cylinders (2, 4) as supports for interacting permanent-magnet arrangements (3, 5) on the input and output drive sides. Each permanent-magnet arrangement comprises a large number of individual magnets (M) which are arranged at a distance from one another along n circumferentially oriented rows and have alternating polarity. The individual magnets (M) of adjacent rows and the individual magnets on a connecting line (V) of a group of n adjacent individual magnets of equal polarity of the individual magnets, located in n-rows, of the first and n-th row (M1, M5) are offset with respect to one another in the circumferential direction. In the event of axial displacement of the cylinders, a compensating axial force is produced, which is dependent on the selected arrangement of the individual magnets. <IMAGE>
