The invention relates to a fluid friction coupling 15 which is configured such that it can be engaged. To this end, the hub 18 is provided with inner lamellas 20 which are arranged such that they are rotationally fixed but can be displaced axially. The housing 17 has supporting rings 23 which are accommodated in keyways 21 in a rotationally fixed and axially displaceable manner. Accommodated between the support rings 23 are loosely inserted outer lamellas 19. When the hub 18 and housing 17 are subjected to pressure by means of an operating device, for example 16a, the outer lamellas 19 are subjected to pressure by way of a pressure disc 25a, i.e. a frictional engagement between the outer lamellas 19 and support rings 23 is produced, by means of which a rotationally fixed connection to the housing 17 can be made. In the disconnected condition a relative rotation of the hub 18 and housing 17 does not produce a substantial build up of torque, whilst if the outer lamellas 19 are secured, a large-surface shearing of the silicone oil in the housing interior 24 takes place and hence a torque from the driving part, for example the hub 18, can be passed on to the housing 17. <IMAGE>
