PURPOSE:To make it possible to improve a cycle characteristic and to increase the battery actuation voltage at the time of discharge by adding a Mg2Ni system hydrogen storage alloy to a rare earth system hydrogen storage alloy which is the main component of a negative electrode. CONSTITUTION:When the alloy powder, having the main component of a rare earth hydrogen storage alloy and mixed with a Mg2Ni system hydrogen storage alloy, is used to a negative electrode, the surface of the Mg2Ni system hydrogen storage alloy is melted by an alkaline electrolyte to become Mg(OH)2, etc., and a rare earth system hydrogen storage alloy particle can be firmly retained. This makes a cycle characteristic to be improved, and also the actuation voltage at the time of discharge to be increased since the surface of the Mg2Ni system hydrogen storage alloy is covered with Mg(OH)2 and the alloy inside exists as hydride intactly with the rare earth system hydrogen storage alloy superiorly concerned in a discharge reaction at the time of discharge. |
