1,247,826. Gloves. AKWELL INDUSTRIES Inc. 6 Feb., 1970 [12 Sept., 1969], No. 5800/ 70. Heading A3V. A unitary elastomeric glove to fit tightly over a wearer's hand and lower forearm comprises an open end cuff portion 18, to receive the end of a garment sleeve, which includes spaced circumferential bands 22, 24, adjacent the open end, of thicker material than that of the other parts of the glove. The glove thus grips the sleeve between the bands and is suitable for use, when sterilised, by a surgeon. A terminal bead 21 formed around the open cuff end may form one of said bands and the thickness of the material, other than that of the bands, is within the range 0.005-0.010 in. and is substantially uniform. The thickened bands may be formed by applying coagulants to the glove material during the moulding stages of formation and are usually 2-3 times as thick as the rest of the glove, the widths of these bands being in the range 3/8-3/4 in. For use as a surgical glove, when the material is as thin as possible, the material may be 0.005 in. thick apart from 0.014 thick bands which are 1/2 in. wide and separted by 1¢- 2¢ inches. The unthickened band of material 23 bulges in use to accommodate the material of a garment sleeve which is trapped between the thickened bands. |
