Handbrake

A handbrake, especially a parking brake, for a motor vehicle, which has at least one hydraulic pressure medium source, is presented. A formed wire part (3) is moved by way of the operating button (2) of the hand lever (1) of the parking brake. An operating lever (4) is swivelled by the formed wire part. The operating lever moves a control body (7) against the force of a helical tension spring (8). The control body has a ramp (12) for an inlet valve (15) and a ramp (11) for an outlet valve (17). Inlet and outlet valves can be controlled via the ramps by thumb pressure. By means of the inlet valve the working chamber of a piston cylinder unit can be filled with pressure medium. The said working chamber can be relieved by the outlet valve. The piston cylinder unit assists the hand lever by way of a rack pinion assembly during the brake locking process. The build-up, reduction and maintenance of pressure in the working chamber can be conveniently accomplished by thumb pressure. In addition a ratchet (28) for the parking brake can be locked or unlocked by thumb pressure. By means of the invention a simple but convenient action of a parking brake is achieved with hydraulic power assistance. <IMAGE>
