The closed shell-and-tube condenser contains cooled tubes which are arranged in a vapour void (space) bounded by a casing and tube plates (sheets), and connecting stubs for introducing vapour, for draining liquid and for draining gases which cannot be condensed. According to the invention, deflecting plates are built into the vapour void of the condenser either parallel to or perpendicular to the cooled tubes.
